I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting John when we were both serving with the EU Police Mission in Bosnia & Herzegovina. I know he was well-liked and extremely respected as a friend and colleague by many international officers in the Mission - an officer in the best traditions of An Garda Siochana. I was very sorry to learn of his passing and I know that many of my UK Police colleagues would wish me to extend our sincere condolences to his family and friends.

Sending my condolences to all Caroline, Jenny and Peter and all Johns family, a lovely man always enjoying meeting him, particularly remember a lovely lunch outside The Queen’s in Dalkey in summer sunshine, not long after Johns accident.

Very sad to hear of John's passing, he was a true gentleman I enjoyed many chats over the years around the coast. May he rest in peace.

The memories are all distant ones at this stage. The images are of John on the upper deck of the Salthill bus, heading home after school; a quiet, reserved guy, capable of issuing a witty comment that captured the moment and made you laugh. A guy who stood out from the rest. Even the late and great Peter Flood, would always stop and take the time to engage in conversation with John. A rare honour bestowed upon a select few.

I didn't see much of John once the schooldays and the bus days ended. But, by then, the impressions were made. And, the impressions have lasted.

Sincere condolences to John’s children, family and friends. We were very sad to hear of John’s passing. We had the privilege of getting to know John in the NRH some years ago. We have poignant memories of our chats, particularly watching Connacht beating Leinster in the Pro12 Final. He was a lovely man and will be sorely missed.

I had the privilege of knowing and working with John over his many years serving in the Garda Underwater Unit, where he was the consummate professional and a credit to that Unit who brought important closure to so many families throughout Ireland. John was also great company and so proud of his Salthill roots. Your suffering is over you now John and you have truly earned your place amongst the saints.
