John Connolly

A truly unique soul. It feels like the end of an era. RIP.

Saddened to hear of the passing on of John to a better place. He was a wonderful person and who was long well known to our family as neighbors with linked multigenerational connections in both Barna and USA. John's knowledge of all matters of Barna and Galway was extensive. He had many interests and kept up to date with global events as well as the local news.

He often called to visit my mother, Ann Kelly RIP with some of his excellent home grown vegetables even up to recently. He and his brother Tom RIP kept their house and land in Barna in the traditional way as those family who went before them.

My thoughts are with the extended family in Ireland and USA

He was a great friend of my parents, Bill and Theresa and our family have many happy memories of visiting his home picking daffodils and tomatoes from the glasshouse. You could never leave without a ' cup of tea and some of his wonderful home baked bread.

It was such a pleasure to get to know John and learn about the history of Barna and Galway. I brought him to the doctors a few times during the lockdown and he had great stories about all the people who lived along the Barna road on our trip to the Doc in Salthill. This man was so unique & loveable. RIP John

John was a familiar sight on his bike and had such wonderful knowledge of the local area and its people. He was a wonderful man with plenty of stories and smiles. He would often leave mini presents of fresh heads of cabbage, lettuce or even tomatoes at the door.

We are so very grateful that John was able to attend our wedding this past June. He will be greatly missed by his family, friends and neighbours.
