Deepest sympathy to the Coughlan family on the passing of John. I have great memories of practising and playing with John on the Tang GAA teams of the fifties. John was also an accomplished Rugby player having been a boarder in Blackrock College. Some time ago I was browsing through the sporting pages of the national newspapers looking for items of interest when I found that the Irish Independent had a report on the 19th March 1953 showing that Blackrock College had won the Leinster Schools Senior Rugby cup on the 17th March beating Clongowes Wood in the final with John being one of their star forwards. This was a great achievement.
