To Joe, Ellen and Dermot may i express my heartfelt sympathies to you on the passing of your brother Johnny. May i start by saying without question what a gentleman he was. Johnny was a very quiet, humble unassuming man. He had vast amount of knowledge of people gone before us and was quite willing to share this with you if you so wished. Johnny was an excellent and superbly talented road bowler in his day. I did not have the privilege of seeing him throw competively but did see him throw on occasions out by his former residence at Donemark area just for fun. I have often spoken to men who did see him bowling competively and all said he was one of the finest with an unmatched style. Straight as a dye with lofting and strength to match. Johnny was not a man for plaudits or big celebratory occasion as his philosophy was, he went out to win and give it his all. Win or loose he remained the same man you saw before he lit up the road with his proess and had a smile on his face. Now, Johnny had his detractors (hurlers on the ditch) and he knew this only too well but alas it did not phase him in the slightest as he knew without blowing his own trumpet as these "sporting men" were jealous of him. My own brother Jeremiah John (Jake) Wiseman had the utmost admiration for Johnny and as a good bowler himself always said there was no one could throw a bowl like Johnny that he had ever seen. If it were in the present time Johnny would be classed as one of the country's finest even though in his own shy quite way would shrug this off as being trivial and take it with a pinch of salt. So in conclusion may i reiterate my sincere sympathy to you his family on his passing and may the Lord bless you Johnny and give you eternal peace. Amen. 🕯️🙏🕯️
