Hearing belatedly of John’s passing, my sincere condolences to all his family on their loss. John was a generous colleague with his long experience and great knowledge. May he rest in peace.

John was one of the few remaining stalwarts of the Department of Defence of old when it was based in Parkgate, Dublin 8. I had the good fortune of befriending John way back in 1972 when I joined the Dept. and was assigned to R.1. We remained friends, and John was a regular visitor to our home in Galway during his stint in Renmore in 1989/90 and was a big hit with our two children.
John was a gentleman and a great family man. He was known to enjoy the odd pint and his general knowledge was encyclopaedic and legendary. He will be missed by all who knew him.
May John rest in peace.
