So sorry to hear of the sad passing of John, my sincere condolences to all the Dempsey family.

The late John Dempsey was one of the finest hurlers on the hugely successful underage teams in the nineteen eighties. He won multiple South titles at all grades from U12 to U21 and has a collection of county medals also . On all these teams he was one of the key players. He was also a hugely popular character around the club and was great fun off the field also.

Work took him away from Clonmel and St Mary’s but his many fine qualities stood to him and he carved out a very successful business career. He will be missed.

The club extends its sympathy to all his family. His brothers Patrick and Niall also served the club with distinction.

My sincere condolences to all his family and friends but hey what a guy ! He's the only man I know who could charm his way to free beer in a bar full of Portuguese workmen who couldn't speak a word of English. His personality and humour was so infectious it trancended language barriers. You'll be missed by everyone but everyone will have a funny story to remember you by (I have several !). A song to recall is Johnny-Boy by Gary Moore....Wicklow Mountains and all...I'm in tears listening to it as I write this and will be everytime I hear it. RIP my Irish friend. PS, remind me of that Gaelic phrase you used to say to me....pogue ma..? GOD BLESS BUDDY !

John's departure is a terrible loss. We have been business friends for more than 20 years and have just revived our activities lately.

He told me about his illness and I was hoping all this time that it would go away as he was so successful in business as well as in his love life.

I am going to miss him a lot, together with other friends who have gone and left us behind. May he rest in peace.
