John Dillon

I got to know John in 2006 when I joined AEP Customs. Knowing nothing I was so very fortunate to find John who was so kind and generous with his immense knowledge of customs. Not only was he a great colleague but also he became a very good friend who I will greatly miss. Sincere condolences to John's siblings and wider family. Ní fheicfimid a leithéid inár measc arís.

Just heard the sad news of John's passing. I worked with John in Pearse St. and then in the Custom House back in the early 80's. We've lost a good one..

Deepest sympathies to John’s family. I only had the privilege of meeting John once when he received a World Customs Award in 2010, I believe. When I was assigned to Carrickcarnon Facilitation Station for the introduction of AEP 2, I phoned John multiple times a day for advice. He was so tolerant of my lack of knowledge and would explain even the most complex query in simple terms that even I could understand. As a result of the knowledge that he passed on, his contribution to Revenue extended throughout the country. A true gentleman. May he Rest In Peace

While I never had the pleasure of meeting John in person, even on the phone his patience, and warmth even with what he must have thought was a stupid question was obvious to see.

It was with great sadness that I heard of the death of John. My deepest sympathy to all his family. I worked with John many years ago. John was an exceptional worker and a lovely person who was so helpful to us all in the Customs AEP area. John, may you rest in peace

I was lucky to have John as my manager when I came to the Customs unit, he taught me everything I needed to know and nothing was ever too much trouble for him. He was always there to help and a great man for a chat. He will be missed so much and by so many, John was a real gentleman and a pleasure to spend time with. I am so very shocked and saddened to hear of John's passing. I had hoped to run into him again for a wee chat soon as we passed each other on our way to opposite ends of Mount street. He was a lovely, lovely man who will be greatly missed by many. RIP.
