John Donnelly

John was a boyhood friend and neighbour when we all lived in Finglas Place. May he rest in peace, a gentle man all his life. On behalf of my family our condolences to Danny and Helen.

My condolences to you all on John’s passing. I have very fond memories of John, especially in my teenage years when he let me and Daniel into the cinema for free! A very nice man.

John was one of the first front-of-house staff to join the IFI in the early '90s. Such a lovely, gentle man who dedicated his life to the cinema. It was always a pleasure to see him when he popped in to see his old colleagues.

So sorry to hear of John’s passing. As a kid I knew John to see from the Carlton, as a teenager I started to talk to him in the IFC, I got to know him through a mutual friend, Veronica, in the IMAX and eventually worked with him in The Savoy. He was a lovely caring man and a huge part of my life. I haven’t lived in Ireland in twenty years but in these years I have thought of John often and I’ve missed his stories of the glory days of cinema. Thanks for letting a quiet kid in to see all the movies he wasn’t old enough to see… may you rest in peace John.
