I was away in France, the last time I met John was at my mothers funeral mass with Ken Fildes. In 1970 I was facing a major medical operation.
Dad took me to a car show in the Mansion House I was disappointed till I spied a Lotus 47.
A voice said “ Hello Brendan do not ask to see the engine its out having a re-build I’ve two bags of cement in the back of her to keep the ride height right. I hope the cement strike does not come off. I will take the young fellow around Mondello when I get the engine back.”
John was true to his word and the day Ken Fildes and Luke Duffy took delivery of the Crossle 19F John drove me around I am friends with Ken to this day.
I knew the two Johns re built Bray church with my dad. However I was taken up to the Phoenix Park very early to see John in the Ford Anglia. (1963?) Dad asked John what speed he got out of her, the reply. “About 110 MPH up the Main Road and 115 down the back”.
May he rest in peace he will be remembered with thanks by me.

To Margaret and family we were so very sad to hear of Johnny's passing. He was one of life's true gentlemen, and we will remember him with fondness and treasure the memories we have from bygone years. You are in our thoughts and prayers.
