John loved the banter and the question on his mind every time we would meet him was “Who do you think was the best footballer Derry or Thorny?” and when we gave him our answer and when we asked the same question back to John he had a way of answering the question without giving an answer. He loved his trips into town and the sports field to watch matches. A trip into the Chuck wagon for a snack box and over to Mannix’s for a big 99. John had beautiful qualities in life and very recently when we visited him did he express happiness with his life. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Sincere condolences on Johnnys passing. It has been an honor and a privilege to have him in our lives. He was a constant companion from childhood and we have lost a brother. He played all positions in our backyard through fights and tears and goals. He was a godsend to Delia (R.I.P) when we all left home and was always part of our conversation and joy when we called. Kerry football was his greatest joy and nemesis, even though Horans on a weekend was a close second. Con, Delia and Karl will welcome him on the other side.

I was saddened to learn of Johns passing, I have no doubt Mick is waiting at the golden gates for him. I used love meeting John in Boherbee in years gone by and enjoying his recollection off all things GAA and especially his knowledge of his cousins Derry and Thorny playing in the theatre of Croke Park. May the green sod rest gently on Johns soul.
