John Etherington

Dear, dear Jackie,
So hard to take in that the gentle giant of a man who was your ‘Rock’ has left you, and all of us who knew and loved him.
Jo and I, Martin and Sara and their families, send you our love always, and especially at this most difficult of times.

My deepest sympathies to John's family, he was a one-of-a-kind man who left a mark on everyone who was lucky enough to meet him. He was my first manager when I joined JP Kenny in 2013 and with very little experience of my own, John helped guide me through the world of Procurement, he knew so much about so many things and his intelligence and kindness is rare to come by. He was a wonderful mentor and friend who will be greatly missed.

Dear Jacqui, Marc and Ryan,
Sincere condolences to you all on the loss of John, the finality of the news is difficult to really comprehend, he truly was a great man, colleague, friend, and mentor.
I am in his debt as John put in sustained effort to get me onboard. We worked very closely together, but particularly bonded during the long months working from home through Covid. We talked many times a day, mainly regarding work where he would happily share his vast knowledge of valves, linepipe, procurement best practice, to be honest pretty much anything we dealt with; there did not seem to be a manufacturer in Europe that he had not at one time or another either visited or had something to do with, but he knew about so much more, he had an enquiring mind and seemed to be informed on so many different subjects.
I will miss talking with John very much. He even had time for my girls when they would wander over to my office, they loved talking to John and he always had good questions to ask and nice things to say, they were equally saddened to hear the news.
I am very lucky, more than that, privileged to have had the time I did with John, he was a true gentleman, kind and giving of his time, and this is echoed by every supplier, rep, engineer, project manager I deal with that has at any time dealt with John; he will be missed by everyone that knew him.
We will be thinking of you a lot at this difficult time.

I worked very closely with John while seconded to Amsterdam offices for South Stream Project. A very kind and considerate person, supportive and thoughtful of younger engineers. It has been a real pleasure to meet and work with John. I am very sad for your loss.

I would like to offer my condolences to John's family and friends. I worked near to, and occasionally with, John for several years in the Staines office of Wood and it was always a pleasure to collaborate or pass time. His quiet, unassuming manner in the workplace disguised a sharp wit and doggedness in pursuit of his goals. Like all the best people, he was hugely generous with his time and expertise (and biscuits). He was a gentleman in every sense of the word, and I am glad to have known him.

I had the distinct pleasure of working with John on several projects for Wood. He was a very nice, gentle, generous and knowledgeable man who along with motorbikes also liked a beer or two. John will be sadly missed by myself and I'm sure by all the people he worked with, he was a wonderful man.
