I was deeply shocked to hear of John's death. He had called me in May and we met for lunch after an interval of 16 years. The meeting was most enjoyable and I had intended to return the invitation in the near future.
John and I had worked together and socialised with one another even to the point of going together on a booze cruise to France. It is very hard to realise that he is dead.
My profound sympathy to Cillian and Philip and to Joan and her extended family.
I am avoiding gatherings so will not be at John's repose today but will attend virtually his funeral Mass tomorrow.
Dearest Joan
Sending you my love as you navigate these rough seas. Such a shock for John to be taken so suddenly.

He was a wonderful man, great company, an unbelievably sharp mind, very generous with his time; he contributed so much, with great enthusiasm, to his many passions and vocations.
To say it is a shock that he will contribute no longer on this mortal coil is very much an understatement.
We are saddened to hear about the sudden passing of John. He was a dear school friend of mine as well as work mate.

My deepest condolences to Cillian and the extended family. John, Cillian and I founded our Gift Card Company back in 2015. John was our founding Chairman. What a great man. His love of family, business, sport and his willingness to always give back to others. The last time I met John he was on his way to the Dublin semi-final with Mayo - he was like a young man, delighting in the day he had ahead of him. The Board and executive team are heartbroken. We will greatly miss our founding Chairman and friend.
