As a volunteer in Oxfam Parliament St I always looked forward to a weekly visit from John a true gentleman and a genuine bibliophile. May he rest in peace
Sincere Condolences to Margaret and Con and the extended Dolan family on the sad passing of John, may his gentle soul rest in eternal peace. I am so saddened to learn of John's passing, he was such a lovely, genuine man. I met him on numerous occasions while out walking and he always had time for a chat. I had been thinking of him alot recently, wondering why I hadn't seen him in awhile. I have so many lovely memories of visits to see his parents in Drumcondra. Such a beautiful and caring family. I remember the many visits by Margaret, John and Con and their parents to Longford many years ago and their goodness, and kindness to us all, especially to Mammy and Daddy and Claire. Rest in peace John. 🙏❤️
I was extremely sad to hear of John's passing. He would frequent the Oxfam shop, where I volunteer, regularly and he was always a gentleman, always enquiring about how we were and always with a smile on his face. Any day that he visited us was a better day for his presence. We used to joke that he could build a house with the volume of books he would purchase. We'll remember you, John, and may you Rest In Peace
I was very sad to hear of John’s passing. I frequented his favourite coffee shop and we often chatted. On the morning of the 1st August I went into the coffee shop with my 16 year old son and he said “mam there’s the man you chat to when you are in here “. As it turned out John had ordered the same drink as my son, an iced latte and he was enjoying it. When I mentioned that my son had had an appointment in the Mater , John proceeded to tell us which restaurants to eat in if we had to go again. He was in ‘top form’ that day. John, I hope you are reading and enjoying coffees ‘as the weather is turning a little nippy I hope they are not iced lattes’. Your pals Susan and Steven.
To the family of John. I'm reading the Irish Times here this morning, ( Saturday Sept 13th) Frank McNally's column mentions a skip in Drumcondra with thousands of books in it. My first thought was I wonder would that be John?
I worked with John, when he was a copywriter in Brian Cronin's advertising agency. He was such a wonderful and entertaining man to be around, we had several pints together over the years. I hope he has a seat next to his good friend Mr Joyce.
Sincere Sympathy to Margaret and Con and extended family on the sad passing of John Francis. May his gentle soul Rest In Peace
