It was an honour to have known John as a colleague in Aosdana. As well as being a wonderful composer he was an exceptional and kindly human being.

We are so sorry to hear this sad news. John was a great musician and colleage as well as being a true gentleman. Our thoughts and prayers are with Thérèse and the family.

Deepest sympathies to Thérèse and children,Thomas and all the extended Kinsella family on John's passing. I always enjoyed my chats and meetings with John. I very much valued his insightful comments about music and composition. As a teenager, I first heard John's music in the St Francis Xavier's Hall played by the old RTE Symphony orchestra. I particularly remembered his work 'A Selected Life' i.m. Sean O'Riada and after that I followed his music with great interest. I appreciated very much that he ploughed his own furrow irrespective of fashion.

So sad to hear the news of John’s death.
I have many happy memories of concerts we did together with the DSO.
I remember one night, myself , Dr Ciaran Crilly and John repaired to Slatterys in Rathmines for a swift half. John turned to us at one stage and referring to a particular movement in some symphony, asked us what colour we saw it as.
It was then I realised we were in the presence of genius...

John was a true gentleman, and a composer whose achievements, particularly as a symphonist, will ensure him an honoured and much valued place in the history of Irish classical music.
I felt greatly honoured to have been organist at the marriage of Therése and John many years ago, and it is an occasion that is still very pleasantly etched in my memory. May John enjoy the Eternal Peace he so richly deserves.
