I only heard this morning with great sadness of John having passed, we were school mates when I was growing up in Rathangan before my family moved to Dublin, I always enjoyed calling in to the long established pub meeting again with John and on other occasions also..so many happy memories of all those years.my sincere sympathy to his wife Mairead and all their family....I have just watched the funeral mass on YouTube and what a wonderful tribute it was to him may John rest in peace

Our deepest sympathies go out to you on the loss of John. He's a great loss to the community but it does not compare to his absence for you. We will always remember John for being so welcoming to us when we were new to Rathangan and being a friend to us throughout our time there. Eoghan will always remember John (fondly) for making him paint our back gate! Keeping you in our thoughts, Aisling, Kevin and O'Leary family.

Just seen my pal John who's pub have been in for over 40 years on and off has left us you will be missed

I got to know John about 20 years ago as we bonded over golf. He’d asked me to join one of his society golf days at the K Club and I always regretted not making it. Whenever Niamh & I returned to Rathangan, the ritual was always: “..right, common Brian (O’ Loughlin.. brother in law) pint at Fulham’s..”. And it was always a pleasure to open the door, and be greeted by John. I will miss the surety of that. Ready with his quick wit ( especially towards my in-laws!!) always up for banter & a cheeky wager. I owe John when betting him that Donald Trump will never win ! I’m sure he’s up there swinging his golf club and having a pint ; to which, I will be doing the same, in London, in John’s memory. Never to be forgotten, RIP John.
