He was a very special person whom we had the pleasure of spending great times with. many laughs in Nyc and Dub.
Rest in Peace.
We were regular correspondents on e-mail with John generally the first to challenge my mistake or mistype in the most gracious way and free with his own information. I did not realise that he was a key player in the fantastic team that meant Aer Lingus regularly had the highest load factor of any transatlantic carrier, along with Kevin Kelly and Martin Donnelly, both already departed.. Hopefully they will manage space in the place above equally well Beannacht Dé leis agus leo uilig.
Deepest sympathy to Pat and family on John's passing. May he rest in peace.

John was a loyal Aer Lingus colleague and friend who could always be relied upon for sage advice and an inside track on what was happening around the organisation.
I'm remembering back to the quiz nights in ALSAA where his wide range of knowledge showed through, entertained the audience and challanged all comers.
May you rest in peace John.

Condolences to Pat and John's relatives.
John worked in Reservations in New York and Dublin before joining Ops Control in 1976 till 2004. He took to Ops like a duck to water.
He had an immense love of sport
especially Football and Rugby and often regaled us with anecdotes of ex players and friends
He did exhausting work on trade union committees but never did anything that would hurt Aer Lingus as he was a very proud , professional and loyal employee.
He was a member of the Ops "egg heads" . Four members of Ops that would scour the newspapers every week ln search of a good quiz. A good quiz was one that had a good cash prize. They would attend and invariably win.
John was a master of Chatt , no one was spared young or old , male or female.
To his colleague's in Ops he became a universal Uncle , always cheerful , kind and always doling out advise or bits of wisdom. A true Gentleman but his unexpected passing has shocked us to the core. To quote a line from the immortal Woody Guthrie
"So long it's been good to know Yuh"
Ar Dheis dé go Raibh a Anam dilis.
