My sincere condolences to Caroline and sister Margaret, in the very untimely passing of your brother John. I remember Caroline telling me how he would walk hundreds of miles on a weekend and I was amazed, only for Caroline to follow suit!! I only met John a few times, he was a quiet and gentle man and he will be surely missed by all who loved him xxx
Sincere condolences to Margaret, Caroline & all of John's family on his sad and untimely passing. A kind and friendly man, who will be sorely missed by all who knew him. May he rest in peace. We had chatted only in recent years about his inspiring hiking adventures, in particular the Camino, and he often expressed a deep appreciation for the traditions that his parents, Aunts and Uncles had passed on, including the regular meetups with family in Ireland. Whilst I couldn't be there in person at his service, you were and are all in my thoughts and prayers.x
A true Leeds United fan, taken too soon.
He will be sadly missed by many.

My deepest condolences to your family at this sad time.
John was a shift collegue who shared many interests.
Mainly love of sports and hiking.
John gave me lots of tips and trip ideas as he was very experienced and knowledgeable. His enthusiasm to go out and actually do the challenges did rub off on me.
He was definitely an inspiration.

Dear Margaret, Caroline and all the family. We are so sad to hear about the passing of a great friend and neighbour who shared a love of music like myself. I was shocked and saddened to learn about John’s sudden passing. A man of few words, but when he spoke, you listened. He was gentle, kind and generous. His passion for walking knew no bounds. When John invited me on our first walk, it was a mere 15 miles. I turned up in white trainers and a handbag, he smiled, I doubted I would make it half way! Down lanes, through woods, up hills and over bogs we went. A steady stride, pausing now and again to enjoy stunning countryside and listen to birdsong, chatting away the miles. By the end my trainers were no longer white and I knew the handbag had to go, I had caught the walking bug and the future was boots and a rucksack. It was the start of many years of wonderful walking and at the end of each one, John always looked forward to a cold pint in a cosy pub, a smile of contentment on his face. John’s sister, Caroline, often joined our walks and more than once if the pub had music, I found myself joining in a rendition of “Sweet Caroline” sung with gusto. John was devoted to his family and it was always a pleasure to be invited to a gathering guaranteed to be filled with warmth, laughter, music and fun. Our lives took different paths but I will never forget our walks. John’s passing leaves a gulf in the lives of those left behind but Oh! what memories to have of a man for whom every walk was an adventure. Rest in peace, John. Deepest condolences to Margaret, Caroline and all the family, friends and the walking community.
I am so very sorry for your loss.
I will always remember John fondly, the build up to and especially the LDWA Red Rose 100, a first for most of us and so many of us finishing, some nearer the cut off time than others! There will forever be memories and stories to tell. Such happy days.
I will always think of John walking.
Sending love to Caroline and family and thinking of you all at this difficult time.
