I was in same section as him in HQ in 1980. I lost a brother down here and John represented our unit at the funeral. rip.
The following week he pulled me aside and said if I wanted to get out of Dublin it would be a good time to apply due to circumstances. I duly did and was down here within 2 months. I know he helped in no small way. My heart was torn apart as we had only moved house to Enfield a few months earlier and enjoyed my time at HQ. Thats life. I was glad to call to ye years ago in Nenagh to thank ye. Sorry we could'nt attend services due to illness. Rest in peace John.

John was a very dear friend of my father Hugh Loughnane who I’m sure sent the angels scattering and harps flying in his rush to be at the Pearly Gates to greet him. I consider it a privilege to have known John and though I only met him a handful of times I could see why my dad held him in such high regard. My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time, he was a great man and will be sadly missed.
