Johnny was a dedicated teacher who had a huge impact on all those he taught.
He was a true gentleman blessed with a great sense of humour. He was a kingpin in a generation of teachers that made St. Mary's the school it was.

A decent man, great craic in the classroom. Taught me accounting for Leaving Cert at St. Mary's CBS back in 1986. He was instrumental in my decision to study accounting in UCD and always had great words of advice. Rest in peace Mr. Hanratty. You were a favourite to the lads and will be missed. So sad to hear of Mr Hanratty (John) passing. I was in St Marys CBS and he taught me for 1 year, with regret I haven't had much contact with my old teachers but Mr Hanratty was one of the best. He had a very easy attitude and a man you could share your troubles with. May John rest in peace.
