So sorry to have heard of John's passing. It was many years since we had last met socially, but I will always remember John as a very pleasant and friendly man. My sympathy to his family.

Comhbhrón ó chroí Peggy, Geraldine, Brian, all the family, relatives and friends. John was one of the first people I met on moving from Dingle to study in the City of Tribes, upstream in 1986. We were friends since and would have a drink in PJ Flaherty's, Lower Salthill, from time to time - John had his own special tankard from which he imbibed.

He was compassionate, human, full of knowledge, endowed with a particular and unique dry wit, I treasured his friendship and will miss him. Codladh sámh, a chara. H.

John put the "Gentle"in Gentleman, no kinder, considerate man could you meet. His unassuming, engaging manner was so refreshing. When you met John, it was like time stood still, there was no rush... he will be missed around Salthill, but also in town, and especially, the Abbey.
