John was a legend and who cannot remember his” Yanky Doodle Dandy” days in Arklow where he organised both the spectacular St Patrick Day Parade for many years and the enormous connections he made with the leading American politicians of the day.

Merlin Catering did the catering for numerous events in the office in Strawhall over the years and we could always rely on John to do a top class job. The food was always beautiful and the service the John and his team provided was always excellent. They went about the business in a very low key and professional manner. We could always relax and enjoy the occasion knowing that John was taking care of everything else. Rest in peace John.

I am so shocked and saddened to read of the death of John. my heart goes out to Mary and his family! John and my dad were great friends here in Arklow! I THE Last time I saw John and Mary was when they came up for Dads funeral 13 years ago! Dad would have been devastated to hear of Johns Death had he been alive! John was so good for Arklow... His 4th of July Festival was fantastic, I'le never forget it! to see all those bands marching down the Main Street was electrifying for the town! No other festival in Arklow has come close to it! His burgers were second to none! and then there was his little doodlebug that that used to ride in at Parades! He was a great loss to the town! as I said earler, my heart goes out to you and your family! Be Strong!!x

Sincere condolences to the Holland family. Having known the family for all of the last 30 years, I grew up with the kindness, cutting wit and wry glint in the eye of Mr. Holland. From working for him and Mrs. Holland in the rugby club to many nights of hospitality in their house and, as an adult, enjoying their warm company in the always impressive 49ers, Mr. Holland always had a funny anecdote, a testing question and a knowing wink to offer.
