Very sorry to hear of the passing of John.

I had spent some time sharing a room with John in Beaumont back in 2019 and although what I was going through wasn’t as taxing on me as what John was going through, he still always went out of his way to lift my spirits.

He had some great stories of his working days but he constantly spoke about his family with such pride, plenty of stories and videos shared.

He made a huge impression on me and I look back on the time with great fondness.

I met him once at your home in Bellewstown, when l visited with Martina. He greeted us with a huge smile and was wearing his trademark hat. l thought he looked so cool and debonair. A real character for sure.

The sad departure from this life of John Horgan saddens me greatly. My introduction to John Horgan began in the late 80's when he came to Delvin Rugby Club with his son Shane. He took part in the coaching of the young boys and during my car journeys to various parts of Leinster with a carload of boys, we developed a mutual friendship in our conversations which went beyond the game of rugby. I discovered that John faced the challenges of life fearlessly and his principles were steadfast, something I always admired. As life progressed and we both followed his son Shane's rugby career with Leinster and Ireland, we were to meet in several parts of the world. Always with a friendly word and greeting and a true unbiased analysis of the game we had just attended. He never flinched in offering an honest opinion, whether you agreed or disagreed. A visit to his home in either Bellewstown or Termonfeckin, was always greeted with a hospitable friendly welcome from himself and his wife Ursula. His love, devotion, protection and commitment to his family was total. Their magnificent achievements bear testimony to his great legacy. I think of his beloved wife Ursula, and his family at this inconsolable time, to whom I extend profound sympathy an behalf of myself and my family.
