I was deeply saddened when I heard of the news of John's passing yesterday. John was a gentleman in every sense of the word and loved tug of war and all different types of sports. John and myself often met and chatted over the years while serving in the 1st Cav Sqn and in later years when we would meet around the Showgrounds while John was out walking his dog. He often spoke to me about his family and it was clear to me that John was very proud of them all. John's memory will not be forgotten by his family nor by us all who served with him in the Defence Forces or those in Fermoy and surrounding areas. RIP John.

John a true gentleman and a great lover of tug of war.
I remember him well when John was involved with the army team and they would always come to Ballynoe each year to compete in the festival tug of war events and we would always have a great banter afterwards when the pressure was off, later on John had us coming into the barracks for some training and a great crack afterwards in the bar.
What a great man he was and always in the best of form never an angry word.
