We loved our trips to see Irene and Jackie in their appropriately named home, "Homelee" in Skibbereen. Those trips always had the first spuds of the season from Goleen, a swim in the sea at Tragumna, an inspection of the greenhouse and garden, and lots of chat, banter and laughter, and there was always the annual trip to Carbery Show where Jackie volunteered as a steward. Sunday trips to Skib also always involved arriving in time to go to church in Abbeystrewery Church with Jackie and Irene, where they were devoted, committed and faithful parishioners. How appropriate that he rests in his beloved parish church overnight before his funeral service.
Jackie was a kind, lovely and faithful man who, who touched the lives of many in his unassuming, gentle manner, and whom you always left feeling better than you did when you arrived.
