Dear Lucy, Elizabeth and all the Family:
I just received the news of Johnny's death in a message from Eithne and it has saddened me greatly. I can only imagine what it means to you. You can be sure that my Mass tomorrow will be for his eternal rest and for the comforting presence of God in your lives at the loss of such a wonderful person.
It is a consolation for me that I could celebrate Mass with you and him on my visit home last July, when I had a most wonderful conversation with him. We talked about many things and the theme of death came up. He expressed quite spontaneously his firm belief in eternal life, saying that he felt sorry for those who live without that conviction. He realized that he would not be with us for long, but I never imagined he would leave us so soon. With his faith in eternal life I'm sure he faced death with hope and serenity. May that conviction of a loving God who awaits us be your greatest consolation too.
I feel sorry not to be with you in these moments, but be sure of my sympathy and prayers. Father Fintan
So sorry Lucy and Liz to hear, from Eileen a few minutes ago, of Johnny's death. I will make sure to get a message to Fintan straight away . Eileen is in the process of moving house at the moment and does not have an internet connection, that was the delay in getting the news.
We will keep all of you iin our thoughts and prayers at this sad time.
Hope to be able to get to the funeral in Donnycarney tomorrow morning, Please God.
With love and best wishes.
