As a neighbour, I enjoyed his stories about life in London, Dubai, and S. Africa, and felt bad with him when his old dog just wandered off one day into its own sunset, and as his own body started acting up, limiting his mobility and causing pain.

I have had the privilege off knowing John for over 40 years
I met him through work and we immediately became best friends

I had the privilege of traveling with him throughout Ireland and other countries

There was his numerous visits to Nfld
We also visited 5 other provinces

One of the most memorable was when I took Mrs Butler to Ireland on a trip for
Her 90 birthday. We travel throughout
He took us to the Shelbourne hotel for high tea

He thoroughly enjoyed every where we
Went and especially all the people he
Met

He will be missed tremendously
However the memories and pictures
I have will endure forever

I first met John through my Dad, John Neville, when he visited Newfoundland.
Both my sons were lucky to have spent extra time with John: Stefan, when he visited Ireland for Rugby and Colin when John and Dad went touring Newfoundland and Colin accompanied them.
We always met up with John on his visits to Newfoundland!
We remember such a kind man with a wonderful heart, beautiful smile and his love of a sweet after a meal!!

I met John on my first visit to Barna, on the occasion of Susie’s wedding. I was welcomed into your family with warmth and delightful Irish Craic.
His visits to Newfoundland were no less cherished. I have a memory that stands out………. John and John Neville came to see my grandchild , Ruby……brand new and just home from the hospital. It wasn’t long before someone put the new baby in his arms. He held her with trepidation and awkwardness……but most of all, I remember his smile and his wonderment at this new little life.

John was loved and I know you will miss him dearly

I first met John when I was 18 and working in Wimpey Construction in Hammersmith. Then again in the 1990s, working in Dubai. “What are you doing here Shepherds Bush?” he bellowed down the corridor of the Al Awir depot at me, but with a twinkle in his eye. A very knowledgeable man, with a fierce intellect and work ethic, deeply respected by his colleagues. Farewell John, you will always be remembered.

My first introduction to John was in 1982whilst working on the Oyan river dam in Nigeria John needed no introduction because his name came up in virtually every conversation. Throughout the bulk of my career John was always there and someone who I could totally rely upon. At work he came across tough but always fair outside of work he was always interested in my family life and how best he could support me. These days we use words like leadership and followship and John had all these skills and more. On his last day I took John down the trace on zabeel interchange so he could say his goodbyes to all of the lads. To this day I still remember shaking hands in the car park and we were not able to look each other in the eye. The day he retired I lost not only my mentor but a true and personal friend

I first got to know JJ on the Benin Sugar Project in 1981 when he was a visiting Director, i am sure he helped my career along over the years because I came from the Nigg area where he had worked on construction of the HiFab yard which he enjoyed greatly
He was greatly respected by everyone he worked with and had a very loyal core of foremen who would travel to wherever needed in the world at a moments notice

I had the privilege of spending time with John both in Newfoundland and Ireland. He ultimately became a wonderful friend to my mother and toured with her around Ireland. She was then 90 years old and although she was born in Wales and later resided in London, she had come to Canada as a war bride at age 21 and it was her lifelong wish to see Ireland. John assisted and made that dream come true. His kindness knew no bounds. My condolences to the family.
