Sincere sympathy to John's family. I enjoyed working with John down through the years, particularly our chats on Tuesday evenings while serving the desk. John had a wealth of stories over his very long years of service in the Library. As many have said, he was a true gentleman and had an innate kindness which always put students at ease. I often remember asking him what he was going to do when he retired and he said he was going to use the time to rediscover himself. I'm so sorry that this time for rediscovery was short.

He was a great colleague and so helpful to students.
Fr. Downey and the other speakers summed up John perfectly this morning at his beautiful funeral mass. May John rest in peace.
