I am very sorry to hear of John’s passing. John was an ever-present character throughout much of my life, as not just a family friend but also as a kind of mentor at times. I haven’t seen him for quite a while, but he was of great help to me when I needed it, some years ago. I have fond memories of working Saturdays at Lantern Antiques and the days socialising with John in and around Francis Street. He was a very kind man and my sympathies go out to Brian, and to John’s family.

Deepest sympathy. I met john many years ago when I worked for his accountants. He was always a gentleman and an extremely interesting conversationalist . I learned a lot about pub mirrors from him . May he rest in peace
