John was one of life’s true gentlemen — warm and funny. His kindness, humour, and easy
nature made him an absolute pleasure to be around.

I’ve so many fond memories of John. He always made my family feel so welcome whenever we came back to Ireland, and his good humour, warmth, and generosity of spirit were a huge part of what made those trips so special.

My dad (Andy Sharkey) was great mates with John, and I like to think they’re together again now, sharing a pint and a smile, just like they did on so many occasions.

I’ll always remember the great day trips to Inchydoney, and the many (many) evenings in the Wolfe Tone and pubs of Cobh. Special times.

He left a lasting impression on me and my
family — a rare character in the very best sense.

We’re so sad he’s gone, but so glad he was here.
