John was one of the first people I got to know when I came to the O.G. in 1983. He always had a kind word and his welcoming smile made everything brighter. Over the years I'd meet him at Mass in the Cathedral. His sunny disposition was contagious. It was a pleasure to meet him.

We only met John, when he was in his later years, on our trips to Ireland to stay with Bernard and Billy. He was a lovely man, a gentleman, someone who, on the occasions we met him, always had a smile for everyone and an interest in them, let alone a remarkable memory for their names. We will also remember John for showing us how to live and enjoy a dignified life as we ourselves get older. He will be missed by many but never forgotten. RIP
