It is with great sadness that i have just heard of the passing of Gentleman John.
I was Manager of St Brocs Apartments for 9 years and had the Privilege of knowing John when he lived there. We had many a great chats on all sports and particularly on the game of Tennis which was John's favourite.
He suffered from ill health for as long as I knew him but never once did he complain. His bravery and courage was immence.
I would have been an honor to have attended his funeral but however I will always keep him in my prayers.
May he Rest in Peace.

R.i.p john.
Sincere condolences to Monica and extended family on the death of John.
I was greatly shocked and saddened when only some days ago (Jan 17th) i learned of Johns passing. He was a great friend and neighbour of mine here in Milltown for many years before he moved to Ashbury, we had some great chats about many things especially sport. John suffered greatly with health issues for many years but never complained and was always in good spirits. And has been said by others his suffering is now over, he is at peace and is with God. May John rest in eternal peace.

I remember John fondly from our days in Oatlands and UCD. John loved his pub quizzes, was a great supporter of UCD and Mount Merrion FC. I think he knew everyone in Mt Merrion! Condolences to John’s family and may he rest in peace.
John Joe, the (quiz) legend, the savant, the seeker of facts, what a genuine guy with a deep interest in people , knowledge and the knowledge of people. He leaves us early but didn’t linger in pain.
Thanks to the amazing staff of Blackrock Hospice and deepest condolences with his cousins in Dublin and Cork who looked after him through his later years.

To Monica, Michelle, Peter and the extended Marron and O'Donoghue families, please accept my condolences on the death of John. He was a great support to me in the education of medical students and doctors. Always enthusiastic, willing to attend and generously share his journey. He inspired many to think differently. May John rest in peace.
I'm so sad to hear of John's passing and extend my deepest sympathy to his family and friends. He was a good friend over many years. He was great to chat with. He was very interested in people and knowledgeable about so many subjects particularly sport, and especially about tennis and GAA which gave him a lot of joy over the years. May he rest in peace.

Always interested and engaging when discussing news and gossip - sport especially, but also genuinely interested in how our kids were getting on and always able to impart very solid views and insights. Fond memories of his Quiz Book projects and at one point as Ireland's #1 tennis fan. Good times.
Farewell to an old friend.
