I am so sorry to hear of John’s passing. Sincere condolences to Monica and all the Martin family at this sad time.

He was such a lovely man, I have such fond memories of him from my time in Kilcullen and when I was involved in Kilcullen drama group. He was such a talented director. “Dancing at Lughnasa” will most especially hold a special place for me all because of the beautiful atmosphere and memories he created.

We were deeply saddened to hear of the passing of John, our dear friend and longstanding member of Kilcullen Drama Group.

John was involved in the drama group for decades and wore several hats throughout this time, as a visionary director, actor and writer. He was a warm and generous presence within the group, always welcoming new faces with kindness and encouragement, and challenging us individually and as a group to continue raising the bar with each performance undertaken. In recent years we grew accustomed to John's familiar presence at rehearsals, sitting in the middle rows, watching and observing, as we eagerly awaited his feedback, always given with sensitivity and encouragement. He truly was a mentor and a guide to all of us and the stage will feel emptier without him.

He was passionate about theatre and the arts and was always generous with his time and his wisdom in bringing out the best of us, both on and off the stage. The memories he gave us will remain with Kilcullen Drama Group always.

We extend our heartfelt condolences to Monica, Patrick, John, Therese, Enda and all his family and loved ones at this very difficult time. He will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

John, I will always remember you for pushing me completely out of my comfort zone when you cast me in the lead role of my first play !! It was nerve wrecking but I got there. Thanks for encouraging and believing in me. You contributed so much to drama and the creative arts and I will always be grateful that our paths crossed at Phena Berminghams annual miscellany, at concerts in Castlemartin, Narraghmore Drama and in Kilcullen.

Monica, I can only imagine the pain and sadness you must be feeling. You were just such a talented couple and it was always such a privledge, joy and honour watching you perform together, John the poet, Monica, the voice. Your loss is great and my heart goes out to you.

John, you looked after him so well. He could only be proud of your long service in the military, following in his footsteps and the love, care and unwavering support you showed him, right up to the end.
