Sincere sympathy to the Mayock family and friends on the sad loss of John. Very fond memories of John’s pleasant smile and greetings in DIT/TUDublin, he brightened the day wearing his beautiful fedoras in Mountjoy Square and on Grangegorman Campus. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

So sorry to hear of John’s sad passing. Many’s the great chat I had with John when doing careers work with the Fine Art students in Portland Row. His legacy will not only be through his art but also very much in the genuine and hugely positive difference he made to the lives of so many students. Go easy John, RIP
My sincere condolences on John's passing. My thoughts are with you in this difficult time. I had the privilege of being a student of John's at DIT many years ago. He was a joy to be around and I always looked forward to meeting him. He always had something provocative or humorous to say. He always made me smile and feel comfortable with what I was doing. A great man.
John was my tutor at university, and I remember him and his classes fondly. We also worked together on a public commission in Louisburgh, where he showed us around and visited his family home. He brought great enthusiasm to his classes, and I fondly remember his disagreements with Robert, as together, they formed the basis for my art career.
Our deepest sympathies go to Maureen, Paula, Breda, Emer and Sinead during this difficult time. John was always a welcome and friendly face at the Linenhall and we greatly enjoyed his numerous visits to our gallery. He always took the time to chat and spend time with each exhibition and seemed so at home in our peaceful space. We are so deeply sorry to hear of his passing and our thoughts are with you all. He will be remembered fondly by the current and previous team. May he rest peacefully.
Sending my deepest sympathies to you all.
John made a huge impact on us all during his time in DIT. As a lecturer and tutor he was so encouraging supportive and kind. A great mentor in all things creative.

Deepest sympathy to John’s family and friends. He was a very kind and encouraging lecturer and we were lucky to have him. Wherever he is now, there is music I’m sure.
I worked with John for many years in Portland Row and later in setting up, developing and working on the BAVA on Sherkin Island. As well as a valued colleague John was a good friend to me, my husband Fergus and to our daughter Róisín who would accompany me on college trips, where she often became John’s shadow. John was unfailingly kind to her, and to all students and taught with his heart. He became part of our community when he worked on Sherkin, and everyone is saddened by his untimely death.
Our deepest sympathy to John’s mother Maureen, his sisters Breda, Paula and Emer and girlfriend Sinéad.

I'm so sad and sorry to hear of Johns passing. I spoke to him three weeks ago and he left the conversation with a smile. Any time I met John, he always had a warm hug and kind words. His energy and light, will be greatly missed. My condelences to the Mayock family.
To Maureen, Paula, Breda, Emer, Sinead, Robbie, Dónal, Diarmuid, Lughaidh, Rosa, Louisa, Iosaf, Saoirse and Líadan I am deeply sorry for your loss. John will be greatly missed.
We were lucky enough to share some wonderful evenings playing sessions with John and I have to say that I took so much away from hearing him speak. The music flowed out of him. As the Covid restrictions were starting to lift John organised some "Songs on the Mall". I will always think of John when I see the bench where we sang those songs. He was the man who started to bring music back into our lives by organising the outdoor meet ups.
When growing up I can recall passing by the Mayock's house peering through the back gate in amazement at what the John could be making. All the pieces of wood that would be lined up ready for him to sculpt into beautiful creations. The saw was the sound of an artist at work. It was a joy to get to know him later on in life.

Very sad to hear that John has passed away. John contributed hugely to the Sherkin Island community over the years, with his work on the DIT Art course. Throughout his time working on the island, he made a great impression on those who were lucky to have known him.
As much as he loved West Cork, he was never shy in reminding us of his love for his home county of Mayo and took great joy in regularly reminding us of that.
John had an incredibly caring heart and always wanted the best for his Art students. He showed them kindness and support every chance he got. He always made time for a chat with the locals as he went about his work and encouraged them to get involved where possible. Islanders saw him as the gentleman he was, with a great sense of humor on top of everything else.
We were so fortunate that Mayo shared him with us for a while here on Sherkin Island.
Rest easy John.

His passing comes as a shock and brings me great sadness, and so soon after his dear father.
