My cousin John

I am devastated.....had such good time visiting you in Ballymena every year when we were young men. You taught me how to laugh!

My God I will miss you.....I bet you are up there making God laugh now - God bless you John
John McCartney, a legend amongst men. I spent many hours and days with him through school life, revelling in his charm and witty retorts. The 1st of us to have a near beard at 13yrs old. Formidable on the rugby or football pitch, but the 1st to shake the hand of any opposition. A man i revered, respected and to be honest, hoped for one more meet to share our memories. Big John, you will be sadly missed. Sleep well my friend.
So sorry to hear of johns passing, we sat beside each other in primary school and always got separated because we couldn’t stop laughing, played for st Mary’s football team I remember he had the ball in the middle of the pitch and he was saying to me what will I do what will I do I said just toe poke it, he scored from the half way line. 😁 he told me to come over to his house cos he had a statue of elvis with his lips to one side and it would be good for practising how to kiss a girl 😁 great memories and a great lad. Lots of love to his family and friends who will no doubt miss Big john McCartney
So very sorry to hear of John's passing.Very much thinking of his family in the coming days and weeks ahead.
John and I were friends since childhood. In recent times we were mainly connected through whatsapp, since I live in Texas. We shared a love for history and politics and went through QUB together. To those who knew him, he was "McCartney, the legend." A great brain with a dry wit, he never failed to make people laugh and he extracted more fun from his life of 51 years than the average ten lives. No one ever spent time with John without him leaving a lasting memory or impact - be it a funny or wild situation or a piece of wit. So many memories, so many good times with John that a book could be written. He will forever be thought about, talked about, while his witty lines and observations will forever be referenced by his friends left behind on this earth. A sporting talent in his youth, a good footballer and rugby player who some had nicknamed "the greatest kicker in the Northern hemisphere." In line with John's wit, this became one of his longtime self-styled monikers. School pals will remember him fondly as "Big John." John was a big supporter of the underdog (except when it came to his beloved Manchester United) His political ideals centered around the freedom of the oppressed. He was a devoted fan of Elvis Presley. When Elvis died, it was proclaimed "The King is Dead." To his closest buddies he was a king in a different sense. We now say "The legend has died." Gone but most certainly never forgotten. We loved you John. May we get to see you some day in a different life.
