Maeve, Sarah, Alex and the extended McAllister family; words can't express in what high regard I have always held John.
He was such an erudite, interesting, funny man and I loved the chats at the kitchen table or up in the sitting room in Littlegrange. His indulgence of our madcap schemes when we were children and his never ceasing belief in our abilities as adults is something I will always treasure.
We are all the better for having known him and he will be greatly missed.

The word gentleman will be used time and time again to describe John. It is apt and it is fitting. Yet, in the short time that I knew him, he was so much more. He was intelligent, well-read, humble, funny, quick witted and always in search of the perfect golf swing. Rest easy John.

A true Drumcondriac, with a great sense of humour, we had some memorable nights in Mannix rd. post sessions in Fagans. It was a joy to work with John and Brendan when they were restoring Na Piobairí Uilleann in no 1 Henrietta St in the 70s. John always had the great 'one liners'. He loved the music too. Rest in peace John.

A most terrible loss for you and us all. John was possibly the most entertaining and intelligent man I have met and will be sadly missed. I’ll just add a mention of sweet-peas and windowsills. He would know what I’m referring to.
