I was so sad to hear of John’s passing. Sincere condolences to Mary and all John’s family. I got on great with him and loved the craic and banter when attending National
and International events.
He was an absolute gentleman and lived for rowing and the betterment of rowing in
Ireland, serving as both President and
Treasurer of the IARU. Athlone Boat Club gave him a well deserved send off, and rightly so. Rest in Peace John. You will be missed.

I have many happy memories of John put together over many years. He was a great ambassador for rowing, always seeking the best for the sport and working with people to get the best out of them. He did a lot for Athlone Boat Club and for Rowing Ireland, especially in his years as President. I really appreciated his support when we took a Junior Men's Eight to the Junior Worlds in Brandendurg in the mid 1980s. He and Mary made a great team as two of the organisers of the regatta at Coosan Point. May he Rest in Peace.
