Very saddened to hear the news of John’s passing. I have many fond memories of John leaning over the pitchside fence in a rain jacket on some wet Sunday morning in Stamullen and in pitches big and small, all around the county. A true GAA man. Always full of encouragement, always up for a chat and always an absolute gentleman.

My sincere condolences to John’s family on his sudden passing. McGlue spent many years refereeing matches, but it was only in recent times when I really got to know him. He was a great character, always up for a laugh and a man of great knowledge. He’s one spectator who will be sadly missed from our matches, but I’m sure he’ll be watching from above. We've great memories of John being a huge support around all our Bellewstown football teams growing up and always great fun. Picking up papers with him after the races and collecting glasses at the Bellewstown Inn. Always a gentleman, and always providing a warm welcome back to Bellewstown with a chat and a smile. We were so so sad to hear of Johnny’s passing. A true gentlemen, it was a great pleasure to share a goal as umpire with him for the last number of years. Johnny was always good for a laugh and a joke and I will miss his chats during games and after winter trainings on the hill very dearly. A truly wonderful man, rest easy Johnny.

In the pre DBGFC days McGlue asked me to give him a lift to Stamullen where he was refereeing Duleek v St. Pats. Having given him a lift, he booked me during the game (completely unwarranted!!!). It was a quiet car heading back to Bellewstown!
John, you were a great character and a staunch Bellewstown gael. Rest in Peace.
