Sad to hear of John's death. Remembering our early days on Coney with Frances Murphy and Angela and their families,the fun we had! And later good days at the races in Sligo.Sympathy to his wife Margaret and family. RIP John.

Please accept our deepest sympathy to all of John's family for your sad loss. John was such a great character, and will really be missed by all those who knew him, on Coney, Rosses Point and far beyond Coney Island. He was a lovely warm-hearted man and I remember his kind smile when we visited the island as children. My Dad, Richard Doyle and my Mum, Alison , often talked fondly of John and his adventures. May he rest in peace.

John McGowan was coney island and coney island was John McGowan.
He is now a legend like Richard Doyle and Michael Leyden, who also came from coney island.
Coney Island will never be the same.
