John's larger-than-life personality, huge charisma, and kindness made him the very definition of avuncular. From trying (and, to be fair, failing) to explain the joys of cricket to me as a small child, to offering sage advice and good wishes on the day of my wedding - I only wish our paths had crossed more frequently.

John Mc, as he was affectionately known, was a scholar, a raconteur, a true gent, who was great company and fun. His passing will leave a void in all our lives but especially in that of Hilda , Marcus , Jill and the girls. May he rest in peace.

So sorry to hear of Johns death and deepest sympathy to Hilda and Marcus. We had good craic between '63 and '68 when we were Articled Clerks together and on the odd occasion since. Great guy.

John was a great friend and colleague for many years and then a great golf buddy in our retirement. We shared great work and golf memories together - John could tell a story better than anyone and he gave his friends many enjoyable moments. May he rest in peace. Our sympathy to Hilda and family.
