Such a deeply sad loss for John's family and the community of Carlingford. I had the pleasure of spending time with John and Aideen for a weekend in Carlingford earlier this year and the animated discussions, laughs, and banter will stay with me as a lovely memory. Although he went too soon he had a life well lived. May he Rest in Peace.

To Michael John, Bob, Sally, John’s grand-children, sisters and the wider McKevitt and Ring families we extend our sincere sympathies to you all at this very sad time, so soon after the passing of John’s beloved wife, Teresa.

John joined Dundalk RFC in the mid 1970’s after picking up the game of rugby while at college in Manchester with his great friend Tom Reilly. In the years since, he served our club as a player, club captain (1980-81), coach (mini’s, youth and senior), supporter, committee member and most recently Club President (2019-2022).

John was a member of the 1987 Provincial Towns Cup winning Dundalk team, and also represented Leinster for a number of years. He exceled at all sports and won Louth SFC championship medals with Cooley Kickhams GFC, ran marathons and when he finished playing rugby, enjoyed sailing in his beloved Carlingford.

He was a very fine rugby player, a real team man, but it was his leadership that set him apart. His position on the field, was loose-head prop forward – jersey number 1!

Where John went, we followed, when he spoke we listened, and when he sang we all joined in.

John McKevitt’s contribution to Dundalk RFC was immense, and impossible to capture fully in words. His legacy and place in the history of our club is assured. And, this was all done without fuss, with modesty and selflessness. He embodied everything that is good about our game. He was just a good person.
