Val, I am so sorry to hear of Johns passing. May he RIP. Thinking of you during this very hard time.

I knew John mainly in the 60s to 80s when he was a prominent catamaran sailor and member of Bray Sailing Club. We served together on the Committee. Notable was the period he acted diligently as Club Bosun. Our last communication was in September 2018 in connection with the Club's 60th Celebration, which unfortunately he couldn't make. This is indeed sad news; my sympathy to Val and Tony (whom I knew) and his other relatives.

Deepest sympathies to Val and all the Fitzpatrick family on John's passing. After many years out of touch, we met up to talk photography in Dun Laoghaire not so long ago. He brought his portfolio with superb large prints. I'll always recall his eye for detail, timing and composition afloat from my early days and I'm grateful to have known him. Rest In Peace John.

We often discussed our mutual interests in classic cars and all things nautical and our chats were always good humoured, educational and enjoyable.
One such chat led to a sample of Johns maritime book collection becoming part of the library in the Officers Wardroom on the Naval Base.

My sincere sympathy to Val and to all of the Fitzpatrick family. I was so sad to hear of John's passing. He was such an enthusiastic sailor and a lively mind. I so enjoyed debating with him in the club bar over the decades.

Fair sailing John!

When I joined Bray Sailing Club in the 1980s John was sailing a Condor catamaran and welcomed me as a crew on the trapeze from time to time. He sailed with a camera strapped to his chest and a mischievous grin on his face. As a sailor he taught me about multihull techniques and history, and as a friend he set a fine example with his self-belief, self-sufficiency and integrity. Condolences to Val and the Fitzpatrick family.

It is sad to hear of John's death. I have fond memories of John in Bray Sailing Club many years ago.

Sincerest sympathy to Val and the Fitzpatrick family on the passing of John. As a young boatman in BSC, John kept me on my toes but also showed great kindness in his own way. Great memories of doing one of the club’s car treasure hunt with John and still have some lovely pictures of the rescue gang jumping waves in the club’s ribs that he took. Fair winds and peaceful sailing.
