Dear Mullins Family,
My sincerest condolences on the sudden passing of John last month.
I had known John since our time together serving on the Governing Body of University College Cork in 2009. He was an astute contributor, and more recently we reconnected on renewable energy work. He was generous with his time and insights, and I admired his tenacity, kindness, and formidable business success.
You are all in my thoughts; please reach out if there's anything I can help with.
My deepest sympathy,
Eoin

My sincerest condolences to John's family. I was very sad to hear of his passing. I met John when he became chairman of Anam Cara's fledgling board. His strong empathy and respect for the bereaved parents and his commitment to keeping them at the centre of all we did are testaments to the man he was. For such a busy man, when he was with us, his focus was totally on us. He gave of his time generously and freely. He played a huge part in bringing Anam Cara to the nationwide charity it is now. This is one of his many legacies. And he was warm, funny, understanding, encouraging and a pleasure to be with. Rest in peace.
Rest in peace, John. Very sad to hear of your passing. My condolences to your family

He was one of the people and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. May he Rest In Peace.

To Pat, my heartfelt condolences to you on the sudden loss of your brother. Deepest sympathies also to John's wife, children, parents, siblings and extended family at this sad time. Reading the condolences here, it is evident what a remarkable man John was. I hope that the happy memories may offer you some solace at this time of sadness. May John's gentle soul rest in peace.
John was that rare kind of leader who could move effortlessly between the boardroom and the community hall—equally comfortable talking megawatts or minor hurling. He understood that energy policy wasn’t just about infrastructure and investment—it was about people, fairness, and dignity. His passion for tackling fuel poverty was real, and rooted in a belief that politics, business, and social responsibility must work together to deliver for families and communities.
In his role with EnergyCloud Ireland, John brought together public and private partners to deliver renewable energy directly to people experiencing energy poverty.
Our last conversation, over a bowl of soup in Cork, covered hurling, politics, US & EU tariffs, golf, horse racing, energy policy, social policy, EnergyCloud, community, family, friends, colleagues and purpose.
That was John—politics, sport, business, people, and purpose, all woven together.
His parting words as we said goodbye, "we are going well" .
A soft combination of leadership, encouragement and vision!
John knew how to get things done. But more importantly, he cared about why things needed to get done.
My thoughts are with his wife Siobhán, his children Michael and Sarah, his parents, and all who knew and worked with him.

I would like to send my sincere condolences to the Mullins family on the tragic sudden loss of your son husband brother and father. So much of life left to live and so much accomplished already. I met Johnny when we were studying for the UCD MBA it was a tough enough course doing it after work at night, Johnny’s enthusiasm wit and raconteur nature kept us laughing and time passed so quickly in his company. I am delighted and not surprised that he went on to achieve so much and shine so brightly in everything he did. I am so sad to have him stolen from you. I hope the happy memories of your time together will help you through this difficult time. Sincerely Kymberly.
Slán a chara go dtuga Dia grásta ort agus comhbhá dá dhaoine muinteartha agus dá chairde, leaba i measc na nAingeal.
My deepest sympathy to John’s family at this sad time. I had the pleasure of serving with John for many years on the board of l’Alliance Française de Cork where he was President. He was wise, witty and extraordinarily generous. Francophile and Francophone, he was a lover of Irish as well as of all things French. In recognition of the deep links he fostered with France over a whole lifetime and in so many ways, France gave him its supreme honour and made him a Chevalier de la Legion d’Honneur. Codhladh samh duit, cher Legionnaire.

I was privileged to have worked closely with John through his time on the Cork Chamber Board and other projects but particularly through his 2 years as Chamber President, a role he took so much pride in and contributed so much on behalf of the Cork business community. Like in all his professional and voluntary roles he is remembered for his commitment, drive, success and the memories of his great company.
John was an inspirational leader and we are all the better for our time with him and the worse for the time cut short. May he Rest in Peace.

Siobhán, Michael, Sarah and family - I was so sorry to hear about John.
I first met John through our work for the IMI nearly 20 years ago. In the years that followed, I often met him at various business and social events in Dublin and Cork.
He brightened up every room with that wonderful smile of his, great wit, intelligence and infectious enthusiasm for life and every venture he was involved with. He would be proud of Michael and Sarah who spoke so beautifully at the funeral Mass. John lived his ‘dash’ to the full!
