To Ger, Barry, Niamh and Hannah, we are so sorry to hear of your dear John’s passing. John was an absolute gentleman. Always smiling and so friendly. We will miss saying hello to him as he made his way to or from The Springers. A huge loss to so many in Skerries. Rest in Peace John.

I was shocked and deeply saddened to learn of John's passing. I first met John in the student's union bar in Hopwood college Manchester in 1973. He was with his mates from the rugby team and I was with mine from the Gaelic team. After a while he came over and asked if any or us would like to try our hand at rugby. We said that we knew nothing about rugby but John said that didn't matter and that he would show us how to get started.
My friend, the late John McKevitt and myself took John up on his offer. That decision changed our lives as we fell in love with rugby. Subsequently we would spend many many years coaching in Dundalk rugby club at both youth and senior level.
The wheel turned the full circle in the early nineties when John, working for the IRFU, was assigned to assess me for my level 3 coaching badge at Dundalk. I passed!
John was a wonderful man who enriched the lives of so many young people. I offer my sincere condolences to his wife Geraldine and to his children. May he rest in peace.
