John, a giant of a man in so many ways, and what a smile.
John was a great help to me, and will be so badly missed.

John's generosity and thoughtfulness opened the door to the richness of dock life for me. And for that I will be always be grateful.

John had a wonderful capacity to love people and in return he was loved by so many people.

May he rest in peace.

So sad to have learned of John’s passing. He has been our neighbour for the past 18 months and we have missed his cheerful greetings in recent weeks. With deepest sympathy.

I first met John almost 30 years ago during a difficult and challenging period in Dublin Port. During all those years, John maintained an unwavering passion for the port and for its place at the heart of local dock communities.

There was never any doubting John’s deep and unrivalled understanding of the realities and challenges of the world of the docks and his paramount commitment to family and friends was always evident.

My sincerest sympathies to Yvonne, Mark, Jennifer, Lyndsey, Amy and to all of the Nolan family on your sad loss.

I was so sorry to hear of John’s passing. I had many long and interesting chats with John on Port matters and I always found him to be a mine of information and very helpful at all times. John was a an iconic figure in Dublin Port and he will be sadly missed.
