Johns passing comes as a shock as I regularly bumped into him shopping in Knocklyon and we always enjoyed a good chew over what was going on in military and civil aviation. He was a consummate professional and a true gentleman, and steered the Dauphin helicopter programme of the Eighties to fruition. Ar Dheis Dhe go raibh a hainim dilis.

Deepest condolences to the Nolan family. I worked closely with John in his roll at the IAA, he was a uniquely imaginative regulator with the conviction to implement new solutions. This was one of the key enablers for the Irish aviation industry we enjoy today. He will be missed. Rest in peace.
