Deepest condolences to all the O' Dea families on the untimely death of John, it was a pleasure to have spent some time in his company ,he was a absolute gentleman and a character. The light of heaven to you John you will be missed
I would like to offer my sincere condolences to the O'Dea family over the recent passing of John. He was a unique character and a stalwart of Ennis for decades. Life with John was never dull or boring - you had to expect the unexpected - he would deliver the coup de grace with a humorous quote from left field which left everyone in stitches laughing. The horticurtural course that he undertook with Tony Roche and Davy Keane must have been a sight to behold. I believe that O'Dea's was known as the Clare Champion's front office - many editorials or featured articles were penned there albeit in more simple times. The transition under the tutelage of Charlie O'Meara has been seamless. No doubt - John would have approved of same. It is the end of an era with the disappearance of the O'Dea presence on O'Connell St. That presence has been there for decades - prior to World War 2. RIP John - you will be sorely missed by the people of Ennis and indeed Clare. You are a huge loss to the entire county.

My sincere condolences to Mick, Ann, Clare, and the extended family on the passing of John. He called to me a few years ago when he was looking for a photo of your uncle Jack who used to call to us alot as kids. My mother used to keep a dinner for Jack in the bottom oven as she never knew when he would call. Sadly we don't have a photo of Jack. May he be reunited in heaven with Jack, Mary and your parents. Sincere sympathy to the O'Dea Family on the recent sad passing of the late John O'Dea.
John was a man who loved the town of Ennis and all groups associated with the town.
He would have been a very proud man, had he been in Cusack Park last Sunday, to see Eire Og's victory in the County Hurling Final.
May John's gentle soul rest in eternal peace.

Not having been in Ennis for some time Ihave just been shocked to hear of the untimely death of John.
Such a good person, and what a character. Had lots of good times in the bar, the highlights probably were when I would bring in some touring Americans I was driving around. Through the archway and in the back door. They were always on edge until they met the proprietor and received the he cead mile failte and were then highly entertained during their visit. Yes the odd 'blow in' was welcome.
Sincere sympathies to the O Dea family. John will be sorely missed.
