Ann, Ian and Luke... as we continue to walk alongside you during these dark times following John's sudden and untimely passing, I remember the young, vibrant, energetic,organised, socially aware man I first met some 35 years ago during the ESB strike. His commitment to justice and fair play for the underdog, his fearlesness in the face of unresponsive institutions, his refusal to take 'no' for an answer when advocating on behalf of those with no voice , was both inspirational and challenging. So too was his unwavering, if often behind the scenes, commitment and practical support for the community work of the Combat Poverty Network and for the work of the Mna Feasa Womens Domestic Violence Project. I can remember Christmas just gone, John was fundraising for D.A.W.G with his three dogs. I was having a tough time, but John's warm smile & his three lovely dogs made me stop and have a chat that day.
