Almost 60 years ago, John was our very much-loved cousin, whom we eagerly awaited on each of his trips home from the Navy. Though I was sixteen years younger, I felt like a prince in his company. He brought me to my very first film in the Savoy ("From Russia with Love"). He brought me to watch road bowling. He bought me lemonades and crisps, he showered me with his attention and his infectious joie-de-vivre. He even adopted me into the ranks of Spurs supporters. Though I moved away from Cork, it was great to hear at his funeral that he never lost his sense of fun and enjoyment of life. My deepest sympathies to Patsy and Carmel and to all his offspring who clearly loved him. May he rest in peace.

I was waitin over 2hours for a game of pool such was d que in a pub in town back in d '80s an when it was my turn to play I didn't even get to hold d cue as john broke d balls an potted d lot- I got d brush,we had some laugh about it-- a gas man an a gent,may john rest in peace

So sad to hear of John's passing. He was a great character that made you laugh, even with the worst of jokes, and he had many.! He would come into a quite Mount Oval Bar & soon have it lively. Will be sadly missed. Sympathies & Condolences to Patsy & Family.
