Aitor, kids and me are really very sad about this terrible new.
John was one first person that we met when we arrived to Wicklow Town. He was always very friendly, eager to help and full of patience with our terrible English. Always taking care of the kids and leaving treads at the door and car.
We still have the farewell note that he wrote to us when we left Wicklow last summer.
We will keep him in our thoughts and prayers.

John was a lovely, kind and considerate gentleman, we got to know him over the last four years when we became neighbours. We'd always meet him and stop for a chat on the road, when he would be out diligently weeding the footpaths. He'd always tell us about his day and the things he got up to and the walks he'd been on and the people he knew. He'd always make sure to ask you how you were and tell you to take care of yourself. We will miss him greatly. Thinking of all his family and friends at this very difficult time.
A gentle, interesting and inspirational man as well as a lovely neighbour. A loss to us all. RIP John

Dear Family and Friends of John, I am deeply saddened by his passing. He had strong values and integrity, always supporting those around him as a father, mentor, friend, and brother. I feel privileged to have known John; he was not just a friend; I considered him a brother. Kathy and I will truly miss him, especially those moments when he would suddenly appear at our house. Our conversations flowed effortlessly, like lifelong friends would, filled with laughter and warmth without long pauses. John was a true friend, and the world has lost a genuinely kind person. His memories will continue to inspire those who knew him well. As we remember him, may he continue to find peace in heaven. Thank you for the memories, John.

My sincere condolences to John’s family. I was stunned and saddened to hear of his sudden passing. I knew John when I worked in Rathdrum in 1975-1977 and met him again nearly 50 years later when he moved to Wicklow. Apart from his eyesight loss, he was still very much the same John. He bemoaned the fact that he’d bought a house with a great view which he couldn’t see but thanked God that he was mobile and had enough vision to be able to get out and walk and get around independently. He had such a dry sense of humour. Rest in Peace John
