John O'Connor

In 1975, I spent the guts of a year working in Dublin Zoo. Part of the magic of that wonderful experience was getting to know and meeting John O Connor. I remember thinking at the time that he was just a lovely warm human being. Always telling jokes, he looked at the bright side of life and he was great fun to be around. For some reason he always went missing at lunchtime, ❤️ so the tearoom was not as much fun. Over the years I brought my own 3 children up to the Zoo and would meet John and Joe Byrne. The kids were looked after Royally and of course we would have the chat about Mary and his own children and grandchildren whom he adored.
I met Mark from the Zoo in the Pool in Cabra this morning. He told me of Johns passing and I was very sad.
May the lovely John rest in peace. He will not be easily forgotten.

Deepest sympathies to the O'Connor family, I have many fond memories of working with John in Dublin Zoo. I spent 15years working along side him and he was just a wonderful, kind man, who showed me great patience and thought me so much. He will be greatly missed.

John was the best Granda to Sean, from day one they had a special bond. It was like they already knew each other. No one could calm Sean like his Granda John in the early days. Sean’s baby book even has a passage about who’s baby favourite person, that was John! Hands down. They loved each other so much, and that love never waned, in fact it grew stronger. They spent so much time together, especially when we we went into the pandemic. Sean absolutely idolised John, and so he should have, he was simply the best… I’ll miss him but I’ll make sure his pal Sean is ok, we will make you proud John, I promise, you will never ever be forgotten ❤️ thank you for everything ❤️
